“Everyone looked at me, I felt inhumane, when it turned out that it was someone’s backpack in the way of the door.

“Then there was one more time in the shops, a little boy looked at me and said ‘holy f**k you’re fat’ and the two men started laughing with him.”

Brenda, who was bullied in her youth because of her weight, said the situation became so serious that she did not want to leave the house because she suffered from social anxiety.

Brenda’s wake-up call came after her doctor delivered the devastating news that if she didn’t lose weight, she wouldn’t live another five years.

After unsuccessfully trying to lose weight, Brenda underwent a gastric band in August 2018 to help her achieve her goals.

Since losing weight, Brenda is back to work for the first time in 15 years.

She went back to school and became a home care support worker to help other people who were locked up at home as if she were at her worst.

She said, “A weight has been lifted off me, my quality of life is great.” I can do anything. I train in the gym six days a week, I can run 10km if I want to, where before 10m was a problem.

“I am a much happier person now, this weight loss has made me much more optimistic. Now I live life as a free person, it’s great.’
