‘It was basically a work event in the basement’: Boris Johnson’s disco dancing footage becomes a huge online hit as the stream of memes about the Downing Street scandal continues

  • It resurfaced among memes about parties being held in Downing Street
  • A joker wrote about the video ‘It was actually a work event in the basement’

A video of Prime Minister Boris Johnson dancing to a Christmas party with a lightsaber-wielding member of the London Assembly at a Christmas party nearly a decade ago has resurfaced amid news of more Downing Street celebrations.

The widespread images of what is believed to be a 2013 bash set Twitter and Instagram on fire today.

One bum who posted it added the caption “It was actually a work event in the basement.”

The footage shows Mr Johnson dancing with Jeanette Arnold OBE, who has been a member of the London Assembly since 2000.

It seems unlikely that Ms Arnold – who became chair in 2015 – will share a dance floor with the Prime Minister in the future.

This week, she tweeted her disgust at the reports of the number 10 lockdown-breaking parties.

She said: ‘I doubt the Prime Minister has an honest bone in his body, so unfortunately he won’t do the decent thing and resign.’

Internet delight at Mr Johnson’s explanation of the May 2020 party showed no signs of waning today.

And one prankster even joked about the Met Commissioner making music as a DJ named Cressida Decks.

This morning, the Prime Minister’s former communications director apologized during a party at Number 10 the night before the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.

James Slack, who was Johnson’s communications director until last year, apologized Friday morning for the “anger and pain” his departure in April 2021 had caused.

Mr Slack said he took “full responsibility” and was “deeply sorry.”

It came after The Telegraph reported that advisers and officials met after work for two separate events on April 16, 2021, as the country went through a period of mourning over Prince Philip’s death.

The events would mark the departure of Mr Slack and one of the prime minister’s personal photographers, the paper said.

The two events are said to have started separately and later merged.
