Malawi’s Frank Mhango scored twice as he stunned South African rivals Zimbabwe with a 2-1 win in Group B at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The result meant that his side kept their hopes alive for the second round on Friday at Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam after taking their first win of the tournament.
Ishmael Wadi gave Zimbabwe the lead 38 minutes into the first half, but Mhango tied the score just before half-time.
Ismael Wadi put Zimbabwe ahead in the 38th minute at Stade Omnisports de Bafoussam
Gabadinho Mhango (11) made sure Malawi won the match 2-1 on Friday
He added the second after 58 minutes when he took advantage of some hesitant defense and secured a poaching finish.
Malawi has three points from two matches and is third in the group behind Senegal and Guinea, who each have four. Zimbabwe has lost both matches so far.
Malawi, whose only other Cup of Nations win was a 3-0 success over Algeria in 2010, will face Senegal in their final Group B match at the same venue on Tuesday, while Zimbabwe will face Guinea in Yaounde.
